Jonathan’s Place is Dallas County’s affiliate agency for National Safe Place, a 35-year-old national youth outreach program that educates thousands of young people, families and community agencies every year about the dangers of running away or trying to resolve difficult, threatening situations on their own. Through the Safe Place program, Jonathan’s Place works with families and teenagers to prevent runaway or homeless situations by offering a 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency counseling services.
We provide prevention and outreach services by offering Safe Place presentations in local high schools and middle schools. If your school is interested in a Safe Place presentation, contact Landon Cole.
When you go to a Safe Place location, employees are trained to provide a safe environment and connection to crisis services. Our staff at Jonathan’s Place staff will work with youth to find shelter and safety.
QuikTrip stores all over Dallas serve as the primary Safe Place locations. QuikTrip became the first Jonathan’s Place community partner, with over 40 QT stores actively serving as Safe Place sites for youth in crisis. Thanks to a generous grant from The Rees-Jones Foundation, Jonathan’s Place hopes to add additional community partners and Safe Place sites.
Jacob, age 9, was told by his father multiple times not to leave the house without permission, but one day, Jacob decided to sneak out while his father was working in the backyard. Unfortunately, Jacob was new to the area and quickly became disoriented and lost. It was getting dark, he had no phone, and was scared. Jacob had recently learned about the National Safe Place Program through a presentation at his school and knew there was a QT by the highway. When he arrived at the QT store and saw the Safe Place sign, he knew he could get help. He went inside and told the cashier he was lost. A call quickly went out to Jonathan’s Place and we were able to go to the location, pick up the child and help him find his way home. Knowing how quickly a child can be picked up and fall victim to abuse / trafficking – we are thankful that we were able to get him home without incident.
