Emergency Shelter
The Emergency Shelter at Jonathan’s Place is Dallas County’s only shelter that provides residential care and specialized services to newborns and children up to 17 years old.  While at Jonathan’s Place, each child receives food, clothing, shelter, medical, dental and vision exams, developmental and psychological assessments, individual and group therapy, and is enrolled in school.

Girls Residential Therapeutic Program
The Girls Residential Therapeutic Program provides a home for girls ranging in age from 10-18, who are in need of therapeutic residential care and specialized professional services.

Transitional Living Program
Our Transitional Living Program (TLP) is for young women aging out of foster care. The program includes provisions for safe housing and service components that provide for mental and physical health, education and improved well-being.

Foster Care and Adoption Program
Our Foster Care & Adoption program recruits, trains and supports foster and adoptive parents.  Case Managers work to place children into a Jonathan’s Place foster home that is qualified to meet the individual needs of that child. Should a child become eligible for adoption, we provide a continuum of care for the child and their adoptive family.

The Safe Place Program
The Safe Place program is a national outreach and runaway prevention program designed to educate middle and high school aged children about abuse and provides immediate help and safety to youth in crisis.

Position Summary:

Responsibilities include accounts receivable, accounts payable, personnel file maintenance, new employee orientation, employee communications and assisting with annual auditing and reporting requirements.


  • Maintain the accounts payable module of Financial Edge
  • Processes and prepare checks for authorized signature on accounts payable
  • Prepares and enters accounts receivable invoices in Financial Edge
  • Apply routine deposits in the accounts receivable module
  • Tracks gift card inventory (donated gift cards) with COO & DFHR
  • Prepares and distributes annual 1099’s and 1096’s
  • Other duties as requested by the DFHR

Human Resources

  • Conduct new employee orientation
  • Track personnel file expirations and send notices (insurance, driver’s license, background checks etc.)
  • Promote employee communications with regular newsletter, birthday recognitions, informational e-blasts, etc.
  • Serve as occasional backup for bi-weekly payroll processing
  • Other duties as requested by the DFHR

Education/Experience: at minimum

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Preferred with 2 years Accounting (specifically with accounts payables and receivables) and/or Human Resource Coordination experience
  • Or, at least 5 years’ experience as a full charge bookkeeper
  • Professional Experience in Nonprofit Agency Preferred
  • Intermediate experience with Accounting Software (Financial Edge is a plus)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
  • Basic knowledge of IRS 501(c)(3) Regulations

Other Employment Qualifications

Must have valid driver’s license, proof of vehicle liability insurance and reliable transportation.  Criminal Background Checks including a FBI Fingerprint Check are conducted.  Employment Drug Screen and TB tests are also required.

Status:               Full-Time, Salaried Non-Exempt

Schedule:          Normal business hours and days assigned based on a 40-hour workweek
